Wow, interesting day! (plus, correction to last blog)
By Josh Hughes • May 14th, 2009 • Category: KAIZEN BlogOk, so we had an interesting day!
A) I need to make a correction to the blog I wrote yesterday:
Apparently, it was all resultant of a misunderstanding (the Static-X thing).
This morning, I got a call from Konstanze Louden, a member of the Management Group, Spectacle Group, who just happens to manage Static-X. She got my number (as well as the numbers for all the winners) through the Rock Hog Radio Station, who had contacted them after the concert.
Konstanze apologized profusely and advised me that the guy who told us the meet-and-greet was canceled wasn’t actually part of the road crew (which makes sense, he was wearing a Club Big House shirt, and Club Big House is a Great Falls based bar/club that was co-promoting the show). According to Konstanze, Static-X’s management and label OK’d the meet-and-greet, but a miscommunication led to the band and their road managers not being in the know, and this guy from Club Big House was under no authority to tell us it was canceled (so, he was essentially acting of his own volition). Apparently, the Band wasn’t aware that a meet-and-greet was supposed to happen until they hit Minneapolis, at which point they were notified of some angry fans back in Great Falls and became mortified at the oversight. Next thing you know, Konstanze calls all of us up and says they are extremely sorry and that, when she meets up with the band on their eastern-coast leg of the tour, they are going to collaborate to make gift packages for all the contest winners filled to the brim with signed gear to make up for the mistake. Konstanze was extremely nice on the phone and said that Static-X (and their road crew) were extremely upset that it went down like that—-and, you got to figure, if they take this much time out of their day to make the situation right with fans in a small market like Great Falls, there has to be a decent amount of sincerity there!
(PS: don’t worry, the little kid I talked about is going to be taken care of too–Konstanze assured me ALL the winners are getting this treatment! She didn’t even know I wrote a blog on the subject so that wasn’t the motivating factor.)
So, now I am back to being ok with the fact I spent 2 bucks on Static-X songs on iTunes. People are human, mistakes happen–and these people were apparently intent on making it right even though there seemed to be no kickback in it for them so I have to give props and take back what I said in the last blog post about Static-X engaging in self serving idiocy. Which, hey, the members of My Evolution at the concert stood up for Static-X and said there had to be an innocent explanation to all of this, I should have taken the initiative there to believe them on it because, in the end, they were apparently right–so apologies on my end for blogging about it before knowing/absorbing all the facts!
So…..
Thanks to the Rock Hog (and Rock Hog DJ Hugh) for being persistent.
Thanks to My Evolution for still kicking a lot of butt (plus, I am sure they did some behind the scenes stuff too as Juzwick commented he was going to speak with Wayne Static to try and make it right).
and, finally, thanks to Static-X and Konstanze Louden for taking the time to call us personally and make the wrong right, regardless of the fact that we are supposedly in a little mountain town that would be inconsequential to the stereotypical egotistical rock star. I assumed Static-X was of that ilk, and now I know (very much to my delight) I assumed wrong. Thank you for proving me wrong and restoring my faith in rock performers, I will gladly buy Static-X’s stuff now!!!!!
Also, on a totally unrelated note, Trevor and I cosplayed as gargoyles at today’s Cascade County Historic Preservation Awards. Lots of fun–we did that because Ellen Sievert, who organized the whole shebang, wanted to throw a shout-out to the gargoyles of the Ursuline Centre, which is the only group of gargoyles in Montana that actually function (the rest in the state don’t actually act as rain gutters–true Gargoyles spew water out of their mouths every time it rains, poser ones are just statues placed on corners of buildings). I don’t have any photos yet–and by yet I mean we have digital pics but I haven’t retrieved them yet. We also have video and I consider video to be more dynamic, so I am going to edit the footage and make a TKTV episode out of it either tonight or tomorrow, I will post the link here either way. We had fun, we wore costume pieces Ellen gave us (masks, foot covers and wings) and mixed in our own clothes for a Goth-Lolita look, plus Trev made some swords for us to hold and guard the entry way into the awards ceremony. The swords were super-sized copies of keychains I bought during my first trip to Japan back in 2002, so Mom took those keychains and turned them into necklaces. We wore the necklace that corresponded to the sword we were holding, and the whole effect was an eerie combination of cute (due to Ellen’s pieces which, while cool, had a ‘Barney the Purple Dinosaur’ vibe to them) and kick-arse (due to our AWESOME Goth-Lolita fittings, mostly which were either hand made shtuff or Tripp NYC gear). So yeah, we had fun, and I promise footage is forthcoming!
Speaking of fun….here is pics of us with My Evolution:

Me with My Evolution. This is what happens when you let a self-described nerd loose at a rock concert, ‘I Love You’ in sign language and tongues hanging out abound! (edit: realized Trev snapped the pic right after I put my tongue back in my mouth–oops!)

Trev was a bit more ‘in-the-element’ with them. He goes to shows more often whereas I play games and engage in nerd culture more often LOL. Cross over does happen though……
